WASHINGTON – On May 31, 2023, Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09) released the following statement on the passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act .

“Democrats’ reckless spending and refusal to negotiate got us into this mess. That’s why House Republicans have been fighting for fiscal reforms and spending cuts on behalf of the American people.

“I’m not completely satisfied with this bill, but it is far better than the alternative of defaulting on our debt or giving a blank check to President Biden and Congressional Democrats. This bill will reduce spending, save taxpayer money, return able-bodied adults to the workforce through work requirements, rescind excessive COVID spending, require student loan payments to restart, reduce funding for the President’s plan to expand the IRS, and above all, prevent the U.S. from defaulting on our debt.

“I came to Congress to fight. I fought against a clean debt ceiling increase. I fought against tax increases on hard working families. I fought for reduced spending and fiscal reforms. We have accomplished those things, but the fight is not over. I will continue the fight to get our fiscal house in order for our children and grandchildren,” said Congresswoman Houchin.
