Grenadiers Split Doubleheader With Ohio Christian

The IU Southeast baseball team fell 7-6 before bouncing back with 4-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Ohio Christian on Thursday.

In game one, IU Southeast fell behind 2-0 but scratched across runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game.

In the third, Alex Yurt scored on wild pitch and Slater Schield drove in Kody Putnam with a RBI double in the fourth.

The Trailblazers scored a pair of runs in the fourth to take the lead but a sacrifice fly by Brayden Hazelwood cut the lead to 4-3 in the sixth.

Ohio Christian answered with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead.

But the Grenadiers chipped away with a run in the eighth when Trevor Goodwin drove in Putnam with a double.  IU Southeast left two runners stranded in the inning.

In the ninth, Mason White doubled to drive in Trevor Campbell and Alex Yurt to cut the lead to one. Ben Berenda drew a walk to put the go-ahead run on the bases but a strikeout ended the game.

Alex Yurt and Ben Berenda each had two hits in the loss.

In game two, IU Southeast jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning.

Kody Putnam doubled and scored on a RBI signle by Goodwin. Slater Schield singled to load the bases and Goodwin came in to score on fielder's choice.

After Ohio Christian got a run back in the fourth inning, IU Southeast responded with a run in the fifth.

Trevor Campbell singled, stole second and scored on a single by Berenda.

Campbell came through again in the seventh when he singled to drove in Garrett Jones who had singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.

Tyler Yotkewich worked six sold innings allowing two runs on four hits, he walked one and struck out two.

Cade Reynolds worked a perfect seventh for the save.

Trevor Campbell went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI while Slater Schield had two hits, a run scored and a RBI.

The series concludes Friday at 2 pm at Beavers Park in Lancaster, Ohio.
