Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09) recently made her second visit to the southern border in Eagle Pass, Texas, joining Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans. The purpose of the visit was to gain firsthand insight into the ongoing border crisis and to meet with local landowners, law enforcement, community members, and U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Houchin expressed her concerns about the crisis, stating, "I traveled back to our border for a second time to shine a light on the crisis that has made every state, including Indiana, a border state. Local landowners and law enforcement are pleading for the Biden Administration to reinforce policies that have proven to secure the border. We witnessed groups of migrants, first-hand, crossing into the United States. This is a serious threat to our national security."

The visit comes in the wake of a record number of 300,000 illegal migrant encounters in the month of December. Houchin emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation, calling on President Biden and Democrats to follow House Republicans' lead and pass the Secure the Border Act, which was passed by House Republicans months ago.

Houchin's previous visits to the border in Uvalde and Eagle Pass, Texas, in March of last year allowed her to witness the challenges faced by Border Patrol agents and local officials. In May, she voted to pass the Secure the Border Act of 2023 in the House of Representatives, but the bill did not receive consideration from the United States Senate. Houchin expressed frustration over the lack of response from the White House regarding the passage of the bill.

The visit to the southern border was led by Speaker Mike Johnson, who has made the border his top priority. The delegation included other prominent House Republicans such as Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and Congressman Tony Gonzales, who represents the Rio Grande sector of the Southern Border.

In a recent interview with Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends, Congresswoman Houchin further discussed her visit to the border and the urgent need for action. She highlighted the importance of securing the border to protect national security and called on the Biden Administration to address the crisis.

The visit by Congresswoman Houchin and House Republicans underscores the gravity of the border crisis and the urgent need for action. As the number of illegal migrant encounters continues to rise, it is crucial for lawmakers to work together to find effective solutions that prioritize national security and the well-being of local communities.
