Grenadiers Cruise Past IU East 86-59

A stifling defense and punishing offensive attack helped lead IU Southeast past IU East 86-59 on Tuesday.

IU Southeast never trailed and led by as many as 27 points in the contest.

The first half was tightly contested for much of the period until J.J. Reed hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Grenadiers a 21-13 lead with 8:21 to play.

A steal and layup by Anthony Wales Jr. extended the IU Southeast lead to 31-21 with under four minutes to play.

A Caleb Brown jumper pushed the lead to 12 and but to IU East free throws cut the lead to 35-28 at halftime. Anthony Wales Jr. and Christian Stewart each had eight points to lead IU Southeast in the opening twenty minutes.

The second half was controlled by IU Southeast. The Grenadiers held the Red Wolves to 38 percent shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes and just 1-of-9 shooting from three-point range.

The Grenadiers outscored the Red Wolves 51-31 but did not use the three-point shot to put the game away. Instead, they dominated in the paint, outscoring IU East 58-24 in the contest.

Lane Lauderbaugh took over in the second half, scoring 16 of his 18 points in the final frame on 7-of-9 shooting from the field.

With the lead cut to seven points early in the second half, Lauderbaugh hit two free-throws and Jocobi Hendricks completed a three-point play to put the Grenadiers back up by double-figures.

For much of the second half, IU Southeast led between 12-15 points before pulling away with a 21-9 run to close the game.
