Congresswoman Erin Houchin, who represents Indiana’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing federal government shutdown and its impact on service members and taxpayers.
On October 6, 2025, Houchin posted: "Our service members and their families deserve better. Every day Senate Democrats refuse to pass a clean funding bill, those who defend our freedom pay the price."
Later that same day, she added: "Until the federal government is reopened, I’ve asked that my pay be withheld. If our troops and federal employees aren’t being paid, neither should Congress."
On October 7, 2025, Houchin continued her commentary with another post: "Day 7 of the Democrat shutdown. Every day it continues, YOUR taxpayer dollars are wasted."
Erin Houchin began serving in Congress in 2023 after succeeding Trey Hollingsworth as representative for Indiana’s 9th district. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Indiana Senate from 2014 to 2022. Born in Salem, Indiana in 1976 and currently residing there at age 46, Houchin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington.
