Congresswoman Erin Houchin, who represents Indiana’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed government funding negotiations and the ongoing federal shutdown through a series of posts on her official social media account.
On October 1, 2025, Houchin criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s approach to government funding talks, writing: "Chuck Schumer caved to political pressure from the far-left for fear of a primary election. The American people deserve a government that works for them, not one held hostage by political games. Unfortunately, Democrats have chosen partisanship over a clean short-term funding".
Later that same day, Houchin informed constituents about her office's continued operations during the federal shutdown: "Even during a shutdown, my office remains open and ready to serve the people of Indiana’s 9th District. While many federal agencies will experience slower response times and reduced staffing, my team can still submit casework requests and advocate on your behalf. If you need help" (October 1, 2025).
On October 2, 2025, Houchin commented on healthcare access for undocumented immigrants in relation to current budget discussions: "Biden’s policies let 1.4 million illegal immigrants receive taxpayer-funded healthcare. Now Democrats want those benefits restored in exchange for reopening the government."
Erin Houchin began serving in Congress in 2023 after succeeding Trey Hollingsworth as representative for Indiana’s 9th district. She previously served in the Indiana Senate from 2014 to 2022 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University Bloomington. Born in Salem, Indiana in 1976, she continues to reside there while fulfilling her congressional duties.
