Congresswoman Erin Houchin, who represents Indiana’s 9th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, has announced that over $14 million in Community Project Funding she requested will advance in the House Appropriations process.
“Every one of these projects was driven by local leaders and community input,” said Rep. Houchin. “From public safety and water infrastructure to parks, sidewalks, and trail improvements, this funding supports the quality of life and growth of our communities.”
The proposed funding covers a range of initiatives across Southern Indiana. Among them is support for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop a bank stabilization plan for the Ohio River shoreline near Clarksville. In Georgetown, funds would help create the town’s first formal pedestrian route connecting neighborhoods with businesses.
Other projects include trail infrastructure between Salem and Mitchell, renovations at Sam Peden Community Park in Floyd County following damage from a hillside slide, and removal of World War II-era structures in Charlestown to improve access to Charlestown State Park and allow for new public works facilities.
Indiana University would receive funding for traffic and pedestrian improvements along the 10th Street Corridor in Bloomington. The City of Bloomington Utilities plans to use funds for booster pump stations serving both residents and students at Indiana University.
Brown County Regional Sewer District seeks support for designing a sanitary sewer system around Lake Lemon to provide improved wastewater services to area residents and businesses. In Madison, federal dollars would go toward stormwater mitigation efforts along U.S. Highway 42 by constructing detention facilities designed to filter runoff.
“In all, we submitted nine requests to the House Appropriations Committee on behalf of Southern Indiana communities, and I am pleased all nine have been included,” said Rep. Houchin. “Community Project Funding can provide federal support to help make needed local improvements a reality. Without strong advocacy, these resources would go to other states.”
Houchin has represented Indiana’s 9th District since 2023 after succeeding Trey Hollingsworth (https://www.congress.gov/member/erin-houchin/H001095). Before her time in Congress, she served in the Indiana Senate from 2014 until 2022 (https://www.in.gov/legislative/senate_republicans/2385.htm). She was born in Salem, Indiana in 1976 and continues to reside there. Houchin graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science degree.
