Congresswoman Erin Houchin, who represents Indiana's 9th district and succeeded Trey Hollingsworth in 2023, recently shared her insights on a legislative initiative called the One Big Beautiful Bill through a series of tweets. The congresswoman has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2023 and previously held a position in the Indiana Senate from 2014 to 2022.
On July 9, 2025, Houchin tweeted about the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), stating that "Restoring the FCC’s spectrum authority isn’t just a win for technology—it’s a win for rural America." She emphasized that this bill empowers the FCC to boost private investment and enhance wireless broadband.
In another tweet on the same day, she discussed financial provisions for newborns in the United States: "Trump Accounts = $1,000 for every newborn U.S. citizen." According to Houchin, this aspect of the bill aims to put young Americans on a promising financial trajectory and provide them with a tangible stake in their country's future.
Further elaborating on economic impacts, Houchin highlighted potential tax burdens faced by small businesses without this legislation. On July 9, she tweeted that there are over 49,000 small businesses in her district alone which would face significant tax challenges: "Without the One Big Beautiful Bill, they’d face a devastating 43.4% tax rate." She asserted that such taxation could harm job creation and economic growth but reassured constituents by affirming commitment to preventing these outcomes.
Erin Houchin was born in Salem, Indiana in 1976 and continues to reside there. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington with a Bachelor of Science degree.
