On Wednesday, January 3, Congresswoman Erin Houchin (R-Ind.-09) will be joining Speaker Mike Johnson, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, and other House Republicans on a trip to Eagle Pass, Texas to visit the border. The purpose of this visit is to shed light on the ongoing border crisis that has been plaguing the country.
Congresswoman Houchin, who had previously visited the southern border during the early months of her term, expressed her concern over the worsening situation. She stated, "We will not let this crisis continue to be ignored by the administration and will do our part to shine light on it, no matter how many visits to the border it takes."
The numbers speak for themselves. In December alone, over 300,000 illegal migrants were apprehended, marking the highest month on record for border encounters. This is a clear indication that the border crisis has not improved but has, in fact, worsened under the Biden Administration.
During her previous visit in March, Congresswoman Houchin had the opportunity to meet with border patrol agents and local officials in Uvalde and Eagle Pass, Texas. In May, she voted for the passage of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act of 2023, in the House of Representatives. However, the bill did not receive any consideration from the United States Senate, and the White House has remained silent on the matter.
With this second visit, Congresswoman Houchin and her colleagues aim to bring attention to the border crisis and urge the administration to take action. The American people and cities across the country continue to bear the consequences of this out-of-control situation, and it is crucial that steps are taken to address it effectively.
The trip to Eagle Pass, Texas serves as a reminder that the border crisis cannot be ignored. It is essential for the administration to acknowledge the severity of the situation and work towards finding a solution. As Congresswoman Houchin and her fellow House Republicans embark on this visit, they are determined to ensure that the border crisis receives the attention it deserves.
