Strong First Half Propels IU Southeast to 92-77 Victory Over Midway

The IU Southeast men's basketball team used a strong first half to defeat Midway 92-77 on Saturday.

 IU Southeast jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game. Midway scored five straight to make it 10-7 IU Southeast, but the Grenadiers answered with back-to-back threes to make it 16-7.

 The Grenadiers extended their lead to double digits at 26-15 on a Jocobi Hendricks jumper. Jocobi Hendricks connected on a three later in the first half to make it 34-20 IU Southeast.

 Midway was able to cut the lead to 10, but the Grenadiers answered with eight straight points to take a 44-26 lead. A Caleb Brown three extended the Grenadiers lead to 20 at 53-33.

Jaivaughn Jackson connected on two free throws late in the first half to give IU Southeast a 57-35 lead going into halftime. 

Midway opened the second half on a 15-4 run to cut the IU Southeast lead to 11 at 61-50. A 6-0 run later in the half extended the Grenadier lead back to 18 at 71-53.

 IU Southeast took a 21-point lead at 76-55 following a Lane Lauderbaugh layup. The Grenadiers led 80-57 with 6:42 remaining in the game.

 Midway cut the lead to 14 at 80-66 with 4:21 remaining. A Christian Stewart layup and a Jaren Starks three extended the IU Southeast lead to 85-66 with 3:50 remaining.

 IU Southeast maintained a double-digit lead and would go on to defeat Midway 92-77.

 Jocobi Hendricks led the Grenadiers with 22 points on an efficient 10-15 shooting and dished out a team-high seven assists. J.J. Reed added 13 points off the bench, and Christian Stewart and Glenn Hill finished with 11 points and 10 points respectively. Ten different Grenadiers scored in the contest.

 IU Southeast moves to 11-8 overall and 6-4 in RSC play. The Grenadiers return to action against Alice Lloyd on Tuesday.
