High Scoring Contest Sees Grenadiers Fall to Fisk 90-86

Back-to-back layups by Fisk opened the first quarter, giving the Bulldogs a quick 4-0 lead. IU Southeast responded with back-to-back threes by Meredith Weiss to take a 6-4 lead. A 5-0 run by the Grenadiers gave IU Southeast an 11-6 advantage. Fisk used a 5-0 run of their own to tie the game at 11-11 in the first quarter. With the teams deadlocked at 16-16, Fisk closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 23-16 lead.

 The second quarter began the same way as the first, as back-to-back Fisk layups gave the Bulldogs a 27-16 lead. Two straight three pointers by the Grenadiers cut the deficit to 27-22. IU Southeast's Jesse Ledgerwood scored six straight Grenadier points later in the quarter, narrowing the deficit to 38-31. Fisk extended their lead to double digits and held a 49-38 lead at the half.

 For the third straight quarter, the first two made baskets were layups by Fisk. The Bulldogs held a 57-43 lead, but an Alex Maher three cut the deficit back to eleven at 57-46. Fisk led 68-58 before a 6-3 run by the Grenadiers cut the Bulldog lead to 70-64 after the third quarter.

 The fourth quarter began with a Brynna Blackburn three to cut the Fisk lead to 70-67. Fisk answered with an 8-0 run to take a 78-67 lead with 5:44 remaining. A Lauren Lambdin three and layup narrowed the Grenadier deficit to 80-72 with 4:33 remaining. Fisk extended the lead back to 10 but a Sierra Graham three-point play brought the Grenadiers to within seven.

 Back-to-back layups by Fisk once again gave them a double digit lead at 86-75 with 2 minutes remaining. Lauren Lambdin scored four straight points to make it 86-79. The Grenadiers forced a turnover, and an Emmy Ralph three cut the deficit to 86-82. Another Fisk turnover led to a Lauren Lambdin layup, cutting the deficit to 86-84 and forcing a Bulldog timeout.

 Out of the timeout, Sierra Graham intercepted an inbounds pass and Lauren Lambdin finished with another layup to tie the game at 86-86 with 24 seconds remaining. Fisk broke the IU Southeast press with a layup to take an 88-86 lead with 15 seconds left. The Grenadiers missed a shot and were forced to foul. Fisk went 1-2 from the line. IU Southeast had the chance to tie with a three, but the shot came up short, and Fisk went on to win 90-86.

 The Grenadiers were led in scoring by Lauren Lambdin, who scored 22 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Emmy Ralph scored 16 and tied Lambdin for the team-high of five assists. Sierra Graham scored 11 and grabbed seven rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Brynna Blackburn scored 12 points off the bench, and Jessie Ledgerwood contributed eight points.

 Fisk's Maya Buckhanon led all players with 45 points on 18-22 shooting, and also grabbed 19 rebounds. Both teams shot better than 40 percent from three-point range, and the Bulldogs shot 54.7 percent overall.

 IU Southeast (7-4) host Goshen on Friday.
