Grenadiers Fall To IU Kokomo 85-81 in Overtime

The Grenadiers (7-5, 2-2 RSC) fell behind 21-11 to start the contest. The Cougars kept the Grenadiers at a comfortable distance for much of the opening half until IU Southeast cut into the deficit with under two minutes to play.

 Jaivaughn Jackson had back-to-back layups and Christian Stewart scored to cut the lead to 36-31.

 Caleb Brown hit a three-pointer with 34 seconds left in the half to trim the lead to 40-34 at halftime.

 IU Southeast could not find the range from the perimeter in the opening half, shooting 3-of-10 from three-point range.

 Two Christian Stewart free throws and a Lane Lauderbaugh layup gave the Grenadiers a 44-42 lead early in the second half and the lead went back-and-forth for much of the second half.

 IU Kokomo pulled away with a 10-3 run to take a 68-61 lead with 4:30 to play, but the Grenadiers answered with a run of the their own.

 Caleb Brown hit another three-pointer to cut the lead to 70-66 with 2:41 left, and after back-to-back defensive stops, Christian Stewart scored off of offensive putbacks to tie the game at 70 with 54 seconds left.

 The Cougars' Julien Hunter was fouled and hit both free throws with 11 seconds to play but Anthony Wales Jr. drove and scored at the buzzer to force overtime.

 After a Glenn Hill layup tied the game at 77 in overtime, Darian Porch hit a three-pointer and after a Grenadier miss on the other end, Ty Wills scored and was fouled to complete a three-point play to extend the IU Kokomo lead to 83-77 with 1:58 left.

 Two Glenn Hill free throws and a Wales jumper cut the lead to 83-81. After two Cougar misses at the line, IU Southeast had the chance to tie but turned the ball over which led to a game-sealing layup by Zach Rinehart.

 Each of the Grenadier starters scored in double-figures led by 15 points each by Anthony Wales Jr. and Christian Stewart. Stewart had seven rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Lane Lauderbaugh had 13 points and six rebounds, Glenn Hill had 12 points and Jocobi Hendricks had 11 in the loss.

 IU Southeast shot 44 percent from the field in the game and were 6-of-10 from three-point range in the second half to get back into the game.

 The Grenadiers also forced 21 turnovers in the game which led to 21 points but the Cougar bench outscored IU Southeast 36-15.

 IU Southeast travels to IU East on December 13.
