Grenadiers Pull Away From Pomeroys 96-83, Wales Jr. Scores His 1,000th Point
Anthony Wales Jr. had a game-high 23 points and recorded his 1,000th career point in a 96-83 win over St, Mary-of-the-Woods on Tuesday.
The difference in the contest was in the turnover margin. IU Southeast forced 27 turnovers and scored 45 points off of them. The Grenadiers committed 11 and the Pomeroys scored 13 points.
With the Grenadiers leading 18-13 in the first half, IU Southeast used a 10-1 run to extend their lead. Xavier Price connected on back-to-back three-pointers and Lane Lauderbaugh and Jocobi Hendricks each added baskets during the rally.
The Pomeroys cut the lead to 34-31 with three minutes to play in the half but IU Southeast led 44-38 at halftime.
In the second half, a red-hot IU Southeast offense scored 52 points in the period. But the Pomeroyrs hung with the Grenadiers for the first six minutes of the contest as both teams traded three-pointers.
With IU Southeast leading 57-54, the Grenadiers used a 18-5 run to put the game away. Jocobi Hendricks sparked the run with a three-pointer, and Hendricks, Glenn Hill and Xavier Price all hits consecutive three-pointers to cap the rally.
IU Southeast shot 57 percent from the field in the second half and forced 11 turnovers while committing just two.
Six Grenadiers scored in double-figures led by Wales's 23. Jocobi Hendricks had 15 points, five assists and five rebounds, Hill had 14 points and Lauderbaugh had 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Xavier Price had 12 points and Jaivaughn Jackson had 10 points off the bench.
Hendricks led the Grenadiers with four steals and Wales Jr. and Lauderbaugh each had three.
