Fourth Quarter Rally Propels IU Southeast Past Saint Francis 60-57

The IU Southeast women's basketball team used another fourth quarter rally to defeat Saint Francis 60-57 on Saturday.

The first quarter began with Saint Francis scoring 16 straight points, including hitting four threes. Trailing 16-0, the Grenadiers clawed their way back, ending the quarter on an 11-3 run to narrow the deficit to 19-11.

Saint Francis started the second quarter very similar to the first, scoring 11 straight points to take a 30-11 lead. Jesse Ledgerwood scored all nine second quarter points for the Grenadiers, hitting three straight three pointers. Saint Francis led at the half 33-20.

The Grenadiers scored the first points of the third quarter, cutting the Saint Francis lead to 33-23. Trailing 37-25, the Grenadiers used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 37-30. A 9-3 run later in the quarter allowed IU Southeast to cut it to a four-point game at 43-39. Saint Francis ended the third quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 50-40 lead.

The fourth quarter began with an 8-0 Grenadier run, which cut the Saint Francis lead to 50-48. Saint Francis scored to make it 52-48, but the Grenadiers responded with a Lauren Lambdin three to cut the lead to 52-51.

Saint Francis extended their lead to 54-51, but a 6-0 flurry by IU Southeast gave the Grenadiers a 57-54 lead with 3:50 remaining. Saint Francis responded to tie the game at 57-57, but an Alex Maher basket with 2:16 remaining put the Grenadiers in front 59-57.

Neither team scored again until a Sierra Graham free throw gave the Grenadiers a 60-57 lead with seven seconds remaining. Saint Francis had the final possession, but a missed three gave the Grenadiers a 60-57 come-from-behind victory.

The Grenadiers were well balanced in scoring in the contest. Emmy Ralph led IU Southeast with 15 points while pulling down three rebounds, dishing out three assists and grabbing three steals.  Lauren Lambdin scored 11 points, and Jessie Ledgerwood added nine.  Alex Maher scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in the victory. Leah Miller scored six points while dishing out a team-high four assists.

The Grenadiers moved to 5-1 on the season. Five of their six games have been decided by four points or fewer. IU Southeast returns home to host Brescia in their first RSC action of the season.
