Ralph's Last-Second Layup Propels Grenadiers Past Huntington 69-67

An Emmy Ralph layup with three seconds left gave the IU Southeast women's basketball team a 69-67 victory over Huntington University on Friday.

The first quarter began with a 9-2 run by Huntington. Trailing 11-4, the Grenadiers used an 8-0 run to take a 12-11 lead. IU Southeast would take that 12-11 lead to the second quarter.

The second quarter began with a basket by Alex Maher, giving the Grenadiers a 14-11 lead. Huntington answered with a three to tie the game at 14-14. The two teams traded the next 12 points, bringing the game to a 20-20 tie with 4:50 left in the first half. The Grenadiers closed the half on a 9-4 run to lead 29-24 at halftime.

IU Southeast started the third quarter with an Emmy Ralph jumper to take a 31-24 advantage. Huntington answered with a three to cut the lead to 31-27. A Lauren Lambdin three later in the quarter gave the Grenadiers a 36-29 lead, but Huntington scored seven straight to tie the game at 36-36.

A jumper gave Huntington their first lead of the second half at 39-38. A 3-0 run gave the Grenadiers a 41-39 lead, but Huntington answered to tie the game once again. A 4-0 IU Southeast run gave IU Southeast a 45-41 lead, and an Emmy Ralph jumper gave the Grenadiers a 47-44 lead after three quarters.

The Grenadiers began the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 52-44. Back-to-back three pointers by Huntington later in the quarter cut the Grenadier lead to 56-52. Lauren Lambdin hit two free throws to give the Grenadiers a 58-52 lead. A 5-0 run by Huntington narrowed the IU Southeast lead to 58-57.

After Lauren Lambdin gave the Grenadiers a 60-57 lead, but Huntington went on a 5-0 run to take a 62-60 lead. Lauren Lambdin once again hit two free throws to tie the game at 62-62, but a three-point play gave the Foresters a 65-62 lead with 52 seconds left.

IU Southeast used a Sierra Graham three to tie the game at 65-65 with 38 seconds remaining. Huntington went to the line with the opportunity for another three-point play, but the free throw was missed. Following a missed Grenadier three, Lauren Lambdin grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a jumper to tie the game at 67-67 with 17 seconds remaining.

The Grenadiers forced a turnover, and Lauren Lambdin dished the ball to Emmy Ralph for a layup to give IU Southeast a 69-67 advantage with three seconds remaining. Huntington missed a three at the buzzer, giving the Grenadiers a 69-67 come-from-behind win.

Emmy Ralph led the Grenadiers in scoring with 28 points and was second on the team with eight rebounds. Lauren Lambdin scored 20 points, going 9-10 from the free throw line. Sierra Graham scored eight points and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds.

IU Southeast (4-1) takes on St. Francis Saturday at 1 p.m.
