Austin Medicaid payments for national agency codes reach $135,347 in 2024, up 1.7%

Medicaid providers in Austin billed $135,347 for services categorized under the National Codes Established for State Medicaid Agencies in 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Provider Spending database. This represented a 1.7% rise from 2023, when $133,027 in claims were filed for the same services.

Medicaid is a public health insurance program administered by the states and funded jointly by federal and state governments. The program insures low-income individuals and families, seniors, children, and people with disabilities, making it a cornerstone of the U.S. health care system.

Since Medicaid is supported by taxpayers, fluctuations in local billing reflect how public health care money is spent within communities.

The “National Codes Established for State Medicaid Agencies” classification comprises a set of Medicaid-billed services defined by care type, based on standardized HCPCS and CPT code groupings. This analysis assigns each billing code to a single service category using clear code prefixes and numeric groupings, which enables evaluation of related services without duplicating counts or affecting the accuracy of payment rankings.

While Medicaid spending climbed across several service groups, National Codes Established for State Medicaid Agencies represented the second-largest category for Medicaid payments in Austin in 2024.
